17 Feb EPA Food For Thought

President Trump’s nominee, Scott Pruitt, was finally confirmed to head the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), infuriating environmental advocates and Democrats who claim Pruitt will rollback regulations with ruthless relish. We have no idea if that’s true, but a few experts will provide their insights about the road ahead at the March 1 community meeting of the Manufacturing Industrial Council.

Significant local changes are probably doubtful due to the historic strength of the NW environmental movement, and the large layers of local environmental rules. Then again, that same pile of regulations might make Seattle a good place to review whether the often overlapping laws are achieving their good intents. Learn more March 1.

Former Region 10 EPA Administrator John Iani will lead the discussion, beginning at 4 p.m. Now a partner at the Perkins Coie law firm, Iani served under President George W. Bush as the regional director for EPA Region 10, taking in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. He’ll be joined by another Perkins Coie partner, Mike Dunning, and Kathleen Goodman of the environmental engineering firm, Amec Foster Wheeler.

Their review will kick off an ongoing program of future workshops and meetings that will keep the MIC current on changing circumstances.
